If you’re looking to make your garden and home more desirable, you may want to think carefully about how you can improve some of your existing areas. Many people start with the areas where they entertain guests, such as the living room, conservatory or the outdoor seating area. In this blog post, we’ll be focusing on the approach to a more contemporary conservatory.

You can, of course, buy new furniture for this space to modernise it a little, but for a grander contemporary design impact, you may want to think outside the box.

Have you ever heard of retractable roofs?

These are very sleek roofs that retract at the click of a button. They often incorporate panels so the entire roof essentially rolls back on tracks so that the interior of the facility is open to the outdoors. Retractable roofs are sometimes referred to as operable roofs or retractable skylights, so if you hear this term you’ll now know exactly what they are.

One of the biggest advantages with a retractable roof system is the fact that you can maximise the use of a conservatory in all weather conditions. Let’s say the sun is out and you are enjoying a cup of tea with a wonderful view out to your garden. Wouldn’t it be better if you could invite plenty of fresh air and open the roof above you without having to move? Well with a retractable roof you’re able to do exactly that. Then as soon as the weather starts to run and perhaps rain begins to trickle, you can use a remote control to close up the roof and get complete rain protection, so the conservatory becomes another room in the house again.

With a retractable roof on top of your conservatory, you have a wonderfully versatile system, which is perfect for entertaining. There are many cool features nowadays too such as lighting features built into the retractable roof as well as speakers, so you can create the perfect ambience night or day. Shutting the roof when it suits you will also extend the lifespan of your furniture, whilst your living space will feel much larger too. If you are seriously interested in investing in a retractable roof, then you may want to choose one that includes remote operation. The motorised system will make your life a lot easier, and it’s nice to never have to leave the couch to close or open the roof. There are plenty of big brands to choose from, but of course, it’s important to speak to your installer first so you can decide on a system that’s compatible with your property and suitable for your needs.

Even though these systems have not been around for decades or centuries, they are built to last, offering extreme durability. With stainless steel, glass and tough waterproof fabrics, you won’t face many problems with the construction of these systems, but you do need to make sure the installation is right, so choose a company that is experienced in fitting these systems, and always check out their reviews before you sign any sort of contract.
