Replacing And Repairing Windows Around The Home

Posted on April 13, 2015 at 8:50 pm

When you’ve owned a home for a number of years the windows can sometimes develop drafts, small cracks or any number of other issues.

It is generally not advisable to replace the entire window. Usually the frame is attached to the wall itself, so prying the window off of can be a expert job requiring specific construction knowledge.

In order to repair common problems like drafts or rain entering the home there are much easier solutions than a full replacement. Replacement window panels and frames can be purchased and installed on the areas that are damaged. Replacing sections of a window saves a lot of time and effort in comparison to the alternative.

There are instances that a full replacement is necessary however. If you are completely replacing a wall or if the area around the window is so rotted out as to be structurally unsound, then you would want to install a replacement window. In addition to the new window you would construct a substantial frame around it to hold it in place.
